Armed police and ambulances are seen in images from the operation at a high school in the town of Siverek, in the province of Sanliurfa in southeastern Turkey. Ten students, five school employees and a police officer were injured in the attack, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The perpetrator is reported to have fired shots around the school. Governor Hasan Sildak, according to Turkish NTV, described him as a man in his late teens who had recently attended the school.

The motive for the attack is unknown. The shooter is reported to have taken his own life in the aftermath.

Several of the injured are reported to have suffered gunshot wounds and others were injured when they jumped from windows to escape danger.

The school building has at least four floors and has been evacuated.

The city of Siverek has just over 250,000 inhabitants and is located north of the larger city of Sanliurfa, near Turkey's border with Syria.
