Gunfire at presidential palace in Caracas after drones flew over Miraflores

Gunfire broke out near the presidential palace in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, on Monday evening, AFP reports, citing witnesses.

Unidentified drones were reported to have flown over the Miraflores presidential palace around 8 p.m. local time, and were then fired upon by security forces.

A government source told AFP that the situation was considered "under control." According to witnesses, the shooting lasted for a few minutes.

Authorities in Venezuela have not commented on the incident, and there are no reports of anyone being injured.

This weekend, US special forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in connection with an attack on the country.
