The guitarist Mats Bergström is awarded the The Arts Grants Committee's large music grant of 300,000 kronor.

He is described in a press release as ”an exceptional musician with a broad artistic register that spans four decades”.

”There is no more humble, musician-like, balancing, curious and respectful person”, says opera singer Malena Ernman who has collaborated with Bergström on several occasions.

Mats Bergström has worked both as a soloist and chamber musician and is seen as a renewer of how the guitar is used in classical and contemporary music as well as in popular music.

Over the years, he has been a recurring guest with, among others, Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt and London Sinfonietta. In 2011, he was awarded the royal medal Litteris et artibus.
