Truls Möregårdh won the battle for the Jerring Prize against Armand Duplantis last year. Can the four-time world-record holder and world champion in the pole vault now get revenge? Here's everything you need to know ahead of the Sports Gala.

What: Sports Gala.

Where: Avicii Arena (Globen), Stockholm.

When: Wednesday, January 21st, 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM.

Television: SVT1.

+ The fight between Armand Duplantis...

The International Sports Journalists' Association and the BBC named Armand Duplantis the world's best male athlete in 2025 after his four world records and World Cup gold. Now everything indicates that he will be named male athlete of the year in Sweden for the third year in a row. At last year's Idrottsgalan, Duplantis was named male athlete of the year and received the award for Performance of the Year. But he did not receive the Jerring Prize.

+ ... and Truls Möregårdh

Möregårdh defeated Armand Duplantis in the voting for the Jerring Prize last year, after two sensational Olympic silvers. He is once again one of Duplantis' biggest contenders for the Jerring Prize and the award for male athlete of the year after World Championship bronze and tournament victories in Malmö and Montpellier.

Duplantis and Möregårdh will be sitting at the same table in the Avicii Arena. They can then decide when to have the ping-pong match Duplantis initiated last year.

+ Ski Stars Grand Slam

The Swedish women's ski team won a grand slam at the World Championships in Lillehammer last year, six golds out of a possible six. Jonna Sundling and Ebba Andersson, who won three golds each, are of course nominated for the Female Athlete of the Year award and are nominated in the Team of the Year category for the relay victory - together with the men who won bronze. In addition, both Andersson and Sundling are still in the Jerring Prize voting.

+ The Olympic stars are not attending

None of the nominated skiers and biathletes who are on their way to the Olympics will be present at the Sports Gala. Among the others who are nominated but who will not be attending are runner Andreas Almgren, mountain biker Jenny Rissveds, golfer Maja Stark and Helena and Greg Duplantis, track and field coaches.

+ The successful team Mjällby

Never before has a team won the Jerring Prize based solely on merits from national competitions. The surprise Allsvenskan winner could be the first. The last time a team was voted winner was the Swedish men's national football team, for the bronze medal in the World Cup in 1994. If Mjällby does not win the Jerring Prize, it will probably be in good shape to be named Team of the Year at the gala.

+ Deceased legends are honored

Among the sports stars and leaders who passed away during the year and who will be honored under the item "In memoriam" are the Norwegian football coach Åge Hareide, trotting coach Stefan Hultman, basketball pioneer Egon Håkansson, ice hockey figure Lars-Gunnar Jansson, football players Ove Kindvall and Peter Larsson, athletics coach Kenth Olsson, handball and Bingolotto figure Leif "Loket" Olsson and tennis coach John-Anders Sjögren.

+ Klüft leads the gala - alone

After two years hosting with Måns Zelmerlöw, Carolina Klüft will lead the Sports Gala alone this year. Artists at the gala are Miriam Bryant and Toussaint (Tusse) Chiza.
