Premier League giant Manchester City is having a tough time in the league – a full 12 points behind Liverpool with one more game played – and risks being eliminated in the Champions League. City is eight points behind the trio Paris SG, Sporting Lissabon, and Stuttgart, who are on the right side of the line. Therefore, the team needs to win against Club Brygge.

Isak Hiens' Atalanta has already secured advancement. The same applies to Robin Olsen, Aston Villa, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Lille, and Jonas Rouhi, Juventus. For Gustaf Nilsson's Club Brygge, the CL future is still uncertain, which also applies to Viktor Gyökeres, Sporting Lissabon. For Emil Holm, Bologna, and John Mellberg, Salzburg, the CL adventure is over for this time.

The top eight teams go directly to the round of 16, while teams that place from ninth to 24th in the table get to play in the round of 32. The round of 32 draw takes place on January 31, the next step is drawn on February 21, and then everything is decided according to a knockout stage tree. The clubs are seeded according to their table position.

+ When are the playoff matches played?

Round of 32: February 11–12 and 18–19. Round of 16: March 4–5 and 11–12. Semifinals: April 29–30 and May 6–7. Final: May 31, Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
