+ The competition
The British Open, or “AIG Women's Open” as it is officially called, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The winner on Sunday will receive $1.5 million, equivalent to just over 14.5 million kronor, according to Svensk Golf.

The last time the British Open was held at Royal Lytham & St Annes was in 2018. Georgia Hall won at -17 and no Swede made it into the top ten. However, it has been a blue-yellow success at the golf course just north of Manchester. Annika Sörenstam won her sixth major title and only British Open title at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2003.
+ Last chance for the Swedes
Linn Grant has had a tough season. She missed the cut in the first three majors and is tied for ninth place this year on the LPGA Tour. Anna Nordqvist has fared slightly better, finishing seventh in the Evian Championship. However, it is also the three-time major winner's only top-ten finish. Nordqvist was the last Swede to win the British Open, at Carnoustie Golf Links in 2021.
Last year's US Open winner Maja Stark has been somewhat more consistent in her performances. In majors, she has had two top-ten finishes, but Stark is still looking for her first tour win of the year. The fourth Swede in the competition, Kajsa Arwefjäll, made her major debut earlier this year and finished tied for 41st at the Evian Championship.
+ Will the dominance continue?
This year's major season has had two big dominants. American world number one Nelly Korda won the first two events, while Ryu Hae-Ran from South Korea emerged victorious in the following two. Going into the final major, the American is the favorite.
+ The drama before the Solheim Cup
Even though the European team has not been selected for the Solheim Cup, it is already clear that Sweden will play one of the leading roles. Anna Nordqvist is the captain of the European team. She will therefore come to England in a dual role, both as the Swedish skipper, but also with an eye on the rest of the European players.
Despite Nordqvist's recent upward form, the 39-year-old has announced that she will not be announcing herself as playing team captain.
