Tsegay, 29, had forgotten to apply in advance for a waiver for a medication related to her health. Tsegay tested positive in December for the drug letrozole.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said in a statement that she later presented evidence that she needs to take the drug, but because she had not requested a dispensation in advance, she has been suspended.
Gudaf Tsegay has won World Championship gold in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters and took Olympic bronze in the former distance at Tokyo 2021.
