Eleven people, several of whom were schoolchildren, were injured when a grizzly bear attacked them in British Columbia, Canada.

At least four people have serious injuries, two of them in life-threatening condition.

The bear attack occurred Thursday afternoon in Bella Coola, according to Madonna Saunderson of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Officer Saunderson did not have information about what the group was doing at the time of the incident, or what provoked the grizzly bear to attack. The group was in an area called Old Trail. The Nuxalk Native American school warned that there was “an aggressive bear” in the area and was closed Friday.

A wildlife conservation group in the area took over responsibility for locating the grizzly bear on Friday.
