The series first aired in 2005 and has run ever since. Last year, the series was the second most-watched across all platforms in the United States, according to Variety.
The new season will, however, be without actors Kevin McKidd (who played Owen Hunt) and Kim Raver (Teddy Altman), who recently announced their departure after many years on the series.
Many big names have starred in the series over the years, including Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd), and the recently deceased Eric Dane (Mark Sloan).
Currently, the leading roles are played by, among others, Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber).
