I Saturday's demonstration against the war in Gaza, a few hundred people participated. Among them is Greta Thunberg, who returned home from Israel late on Tuesday evening after trying to reach Gaza by boat on the Madleen.
This is not about us who were on the boat, this is not about the mission itself. This was one of several occasions both on land and at sea where people try to step up because our governments are not doing it, she says and continues:
This was just an attempt, but it is not the main story. It is the people in Gaza who are actively being deprived of the right to life and dignity.
Helldén on the spot
In response to the question of how she was treated in Israel, she replies:
Nothing compared to how Palestinians are treated every day, especially in Gaza.
During the demonstration, the Green party's spokesperson Daniel Helldén also participated.
I think it's important to show our solidarity with the people of Gaza and condemn the brutal oppression carried out by the Israeli government and Netanyahu on the people of Gaza, he tells TT.
Criticizes the government
Helldén also directed criticism at the Swedish government and aid minister Benjamin Dousa (M) decision to withdraw support for the UN's aid organization for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa.
Unrwa is the only organization that has enough people on the ground to make a change, he says.
When TT asks Greta Thunberg if she thinks it's positive that politicians participate in demonstrations, she replies:
I don't want to see politicians marching in demonstration processions, I want to see them act and cut ties with those who violate human rights.
