The trip is organized by Freedom Flotilla Coalition, a coalition of groups challenging Israel's blockade of humanitarian aid to the war-torn area.

Thunberg has not commented on the reports of her involvement. She would have traveled to Gaza with the group earlier in May, but she never got on board. The vessel was damaged when it was allegedly attacked in an Israeli drone attack on international waters off Malta.

No one was injured, but a fire broke out on the vessel and a hole was made in the hull. Israel has not commented on the allegations, but has previously attacked similar vessels on their way to Gaza.

EU parliamentarian Rima Hassan from the French left-wing party LFI, who is also participating in the action, says it has several purposes: "To condemn the humanitarian blockade and the ongoing genocide, the impunity granted to the state of Israel and to increase international awareness.
