Greenlandic party leaders on Trump: "Unacceptable"

The leaders of the Greenlandic parties condemn in a joint statement the US President Donald Trump's desire to take over Greenland.

"We – all party leaders – cannot accept the recurring statements about annexation and control of Greenland", write the leaders of the five parties in Greenland's parliament on social media.

"As party leaders, we see this as unacceptable behavior towards friends and allies in a defense alliance."

Greenland is a self-governing part of NATO member Denmark.

Trump reiterated his opinion that Greenland should become American at the latest during a press conference in connection with NATO Chief Mark Rutte's visit to the White House on Thursday.

"This time, we must sharply reject Trump. You (Trump) cannot treat us disrespectfully. Enough is enough", wrote Greenland's acting Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede on social media then.
