The Greenlandic parliament is to expedite a bill that prohibits anonymous and foreign donations to political work. This is happening in light of US President Donald Trump's interest in Greenland.

The bill has been drawn up by the local government, the Naalakkersuisut, reports the news site Sermitsiaq. The proposal will be presented ahead of the upcoming election campaign. Elections to the parliament, Inatsisartut, must be held no later than April 6.

Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that he wants to buy Greenland, which is a self-governing part of Denmark – a wish that was expressed already during his first term.

Now Trump has also raised the possibility of imposing various tariffs on Denmark and Danish companies if they do not comply with the demands from the Danish side.

In a conversation with Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen recently, Trump said he believes the USA will gain control over Greenland – something Frederiksen opposed.
