The French film icon Gérard Depardieu will be brought to court suspected of rape and sexual abuse against the actress Charlotte Arnould. The information is confirmed by Arnould's lawyer.
Charlotte Arnould tells the news agency AFP that she is relieved that the case is finally going to court, seven years after she filed a complaint. The case was initially dropped due to insufficient evidence. Arnould then initiated a civil process that led to a new judicial investigation being initiated in the summer of 2020.
Depardieu has denied the allegations and claims that everything has happened with consent. He has not commented on the information about an upcoming trial.
The trial date is not yet established.
Gérard Depardieu was sentenced in May to conditional imprisonment for sexual abuse against two people in a film production team four years ago.
