Two neighbors were reported to be the last ones to see the 2.5-year-old boy in July 2023.

Dressed in a yellow t-shirt and white shorts, he was walking on a street in the small alpine village of Haut-Vernet, where he had arrived just a few days earlier to spend the summer with his grandparents.

Then the tracks disappeared. The case received extensive attention. Journalists from all over the country gathered in the village, where only a few dozen people usually live, and a massive search operation was launched. It wasn't until the spring of 2024 that the boy's remains were found.

Now the grandparents have been arrested, along with two other relatives of the boy. The suspicions concern murder and violation of the peace of the grave, report French media.

The cause of death has not yet been announced.
