It is also proposed to make it illegal for parties to accept anonymous contributions “regardless of the amount,” according to a press release. The government also wants to increase parties' accountability and tighten scrutiny of compliance with the regulations.
Private individuals and companies may make anonymous contributions to parties if the contribution does not exceed 5 percent of the price base amount, i.e. 2,960 SEK.
Ahead of the 2022 parliamentary elections, TV4 revealed that five of the eight parties in the Riksdag were prepared to circumvent the party financing law in various ways.
The legislative amendments are proposed to come into force on July 1 next year.
