Government Urges Russia to Prove Commitment to Peace

Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (The Moderate Party) comments on the phone call between the presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin by saying "Ukraine has shown that they want peace and has since March been ready for an unconditional ceasefire".

"It is Russia that must show that they mean business when they say they want peace. It is obvious that if Putin had a genuine will to put an end to the war, he would have accepted President Zelensky's outstretched hand and gone to Istanbul last week", says Malmer Stenergard in a comment to TT.

The Foreign Minister further states that Sweden will "continue to focus on strengthening Ukraine through military, political, and civil support and putting pressure on Russia, not least through sanctions that hit hard on the Russian war economy.
