The government's investigators proposed requiring a permit for satellite broadcasts of radio and television - and the possibility of revoking permits in the event of certain violations of freedom of expression. But that is not the case.

The proposals were made as part of the investigation "Sweden's security in the air".

However, the government, like several consultation bodies, believes that the licensing requirement would often not prevent operators from broadcasting via satellite, even if doing so would threaten Sweden's security. Revoked licenses are also considered to have "very limited significance".

"The restriction on freedom of expression that the proposals entail is therefore not considered proportionate," the Government Offices said in a press release.
