"It is against the background of the discussion about unlisted investments that we have now decided on an examination. The assignment is about getting to the bottom of how the funds make this type of investments and draw lessons", says Minister for Financial Markets Niklas Wykman according to a press release.

The examination will be made by the consulting firm Arkwright which also develops the government's annual evaluation of the AP funds' operations.

The state AP funds, managers of the Swedes' pension money, are as a basic rule not permitted to buy shares in unlisted companies. But if the funds form their own venture capital companies it is okay. And that was what the AP funds did when they invested in Northvolt.
