The government is providing one billion kronor in energy support to Ukraine. Severe cold is gripping Kyiv and many other cities, while Russia has destroyed large parts of Ukraine's energy and electricity infrastructure through its attacks.

"In just one month, Russia has knocked out one-fifth of energy production. The situation is incredibly tense," says Minister of Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa (M) to TT.

Children and young people are left freezing at school or unable to participate in education at all. Healthcare and society as a whole are under pressure.

The one billion that the government is now providing in energy support is the first out of a pot of ten billion earmarked for Ukraine this year.

The support is being provided through a fund for energy support to Ukraine and the UN agency UNDP. It will go towards power plants, fan heaters and spare parts, among other things.
