From 2027, the government wants the vaccine against chickenpox to be part of the general vaccination program for children. They also want to see a temporary effort to offer catch-up vaccination for older children who lack vaccination.
"Now we are lifting the chickenpox burden from children and parents. By introducing the vaccine in the national vaccination program, we protect children, relieve healthcare and reduce costs for parental leave", says Minister for Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed according to the press release.
The Public Health Agency is allocated 3 million kronor to prepare for the introduction. The agency already proposed last autumn that the vaccine against chickenpox should be included in the child vaccination program.
Last summer, the Social Democrats announced that they want to expand the vaccination program to include, among other things, a vaccine against chickenpox.
