The authorities and the government have not done enough to prevent the economic violence against women. Now the government wants to sharpen the work. – That women get stuck in years of divisions of property or have their lives ruined by loans taken out in their name by former partners, we must get to grips with, says Minister for Gender Equality Nina Larsson (The Liberals).

The Government has previously given a number of authorities orders to increase the work against economic violence. But the Swedish National Audit Office criticized the Government's and the authorities' work in an examination in the spring. Therefore, the Government is deciding today to sharpen the mission.

We are now strengthening the mission to several authorities so that they can fill the gaps that exist, so that men cannot exploit the public systems to oppress and control women, says Nina Larsson.

Many exposed

She says that studies show that between 5 and 10 percent of all women have said they are or have been exposed to some kind of economic violence. It can be about a partner taking control of bank details and e-identification to get money that the woman has or is waiting for, or that loans are taken out in her name, something that can lead to her getting large debts that make life difficult for many years.

In addition to the mission being sharpened, it is also extended until 2027. It should, hopes Nina Larsson, lead to it becoming a natural part of the authorities' work.
