Mining operations were closed in 1988, but with the government's decision, the company has the right to mine copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver.
A couple of years ago, the Mining Authority rejected the application, stating that the company had not been able to demonstrate that the mining would be profitable. The government has a different assessment, but has combined the go-ahead with a requirement to consult with the affected Sami villages.
Peter Hjort, CEO of Bluelake Mineral, welcomes the announcement.
Taking advantage of critical minerals is a central part of the entire green transition, he tells Dagens Nyheter.
