The Government's measures to enhance cycle traffic are inadequate and ineffective, shows an examination from the National Audit Office.

According to the review, cycle paths are missing between urban areas and the cycle paths are not connect. In some locations, the cycle paths have even had to give way to larger building projects.

"The deficiencies have in practice led to the cycle infrastructure not holding together, that the proportion of those who cycle does not increase and that unnecessarily many cyclists are seriously injured due to lack of traffic safety", says Johannes Österström, project manager for the review in a press release.

According to the National Audit Office, the cycle measures prioritized by, among others, the regions have not been implemented as planned, despite the Swedish Transport Administration having only used half of the allocated funds.
