The appeal has been conveyed in a letter to the EU's foreign chief Kaja Kallas. Which ministers it concerns, Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) will not say.

There are a number of ministers who have spoken in an extremely way, but I do not want to prejudge the work that must now be done, she says to SVT.

Britain announced earlier on Tuesday that it would, together with Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Norway, impose sanctions on the security minister and right-wing politician Itamar Ben-Gvir and the ultra-nationalist finance minister Bezalel Smotrich.

According to Malmer Stenergard, the government is "extremely frustrated" that Swedish aid does not reach Gaza and that it wants to put additional pressure on Israel with sanctions.

The government expressed itself in the spring that it wanted to see EU sanctions against certain ministers.
