The Government wants to allocate 318 million kronor to loss-stricken regional airports. It is important for the entire Sweden to function but also from a preparedness perspective, says Minister for Infrastructure Andreas Carlson (KD) to SVT.

The Government proposes in the budget for 2026 that the regional airports will receive a supplement of 318 million kronor, reports SVT. This means that the state support will increase to 528 million kronor per year.

We are providing a substantial amount of money to facilitate the operation of these community-critical airports, says Andreas Carlson.

Since 2022, the support for regional airports has increased from 103 million kronor.

The country's 33 non-governmental airports, which are often owned by municipalities and regions, are struggling with profitability. According to Swedish Regional Airports (SRF), the total loss amounted to almost 700 million kronor last year. The forecast for this year points to a total operating deficit of over 800 million kronor.

The budget for 2026 will be presented in its entirety on September 22. According to Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (The Moderate Party), there is a reform space of 80 billion kronor.
