At a press conference with The Liberals, budget initiatives for the school are presented.
Minister of Education Simona Mohamsson (The Liberals) states that the government will invest 4.3 billion in the school next year, and a total of 14 billion kronor over the next three years.
I am convinced that this addition will strengthen the school's conditions to equip our students for the future, says Simona Mohamsson.
Government grants
At the press conference, initiatives totaling 820 million kronor are presented for 2026. The largest item there is government grants for increased school safety of 300 million kronor. Then an initiative for student health of 200 million kronor, and 120 million kronor for strengthened security and study environment.
But according to information to TT, 1.8 billion kronor for the so-called knowledge grant, which was previously called the equality grant, is also included. It is used to improve the quality of education, especially in socio-economically weaker areas. In addition, there is a government grant of 500 million for other quality-enhancing initiatives in the budget for 2026.
The 4.3 billion also includes 1 billion for cheaper preschool, i.e. the maximum fee. The billion has been the subject of a previous press conference by the government.
More for tax cuts
According to Mohamsson, it is a "historic investment" in the school and for her, the school has been "priority one, two and three in these budget negotiations". But compared to other initiatives presented in the budget, the school investment is far from the largest.
For example, over 21 billion kronor goes to reducing tax on work and pension, 16 billion to halve food VAT, 6.5 billion to reduce electricity tax and 6 billion for temporarily reduced employer contributions for young people.
