The ferry departed from Visby on Sunday evening. As it approached Oskarshamn, the wind was 30 meters per second, the shipping company Destination Gotland said in a text message to a radio channel.
It was then considered unsafe to try to dock in Oskarshamn, so the decision was made to return to Visby.
Storm Dave is ravaging large parts of southern Sweden, with some areas experiencing hurricane-force gusts.
