After just 13 seconds, IFK Göteborg took a 1–0 lead through Tobias Heintz. Eight minutes later the away team had stretched the lead to 3–0 after further goals from Heintz and Adam Bergmark Wiberg.
Västerås reduced the deficit twice in three minutes before Heintz scored his third, and it was 4–2 to Blåvitt after the first half.
At half-time, Axel Taonsa was substituted on for the home team, and coach Alexander Rubin was probably pleased with his tactical decision. Taonsa was responsible for both the 3–4 and 4–4 goals.
Rubin was probably less happy when his player allowed Heintz to shoot; Heintz then scored his fourth goal of the match with a fine finish to make the final score 5–4.
