Gothenburg is following after Malmö and introducing so-called cultural noise zones, areas where cultural life is allowed to make noise, writes Göteborgs-Posten. First out will be the industrial area Ringön on Hisingen. The idea is that the area more than others should become a place for loud concerts and performances.

According to the chairman of the city planning committee, Johannes Hulter (S), it does not mean that the rest of Gothenburg will become quiet.

I am convinced that the people of Gothenburg want a city with life and movement. We must not become like Stockholm, says Johannes Hulter to GP.

He describes Stockholm as "a quiet and boring city".

The city planning administration in Gothenburg has now been tasked with working to make Ringön a cultural noise zone by next summer. The idea is to let the experiences show whether the city should then have more cultural noise zones or not.
