Personal data of a large number of employees in the City of Gothenburg has been leaked in connection with the major IT attack on the system supplier Miljödata. In total, the leak affects approximately 165,000 people.

In the system, information related to rehabilitation, incidents and occupational injuries for current and former employees since 2008 is handled. According to Göteborgs stad, information about first and last name, address, email, phone number, age, sex, personal identity number as well as information about health and number of sick days has been leaked.

”We obviously take this seriously and now know that Göteborgs stad is affected to a much greater extent than we previously knew”, says Kristina Högström, department manager at municipal Intraservice, in a press release.

It was on August 23 that parts of Miljödata's IT environment were exposed to a cyber attack. 80 percent of Sweden's municipalities use the supplier, and the system handles, among other things, labor law cases, rehabilitation cases and handling of occupational injuries and incidents.

Miljödata has, according to several media outlets, been subjected to extortion in connection with the IT attack, which has been reported to the police. The company has been demanded 1.5 bitcoin, equivalent to approximately 1.6 million kronor.
