The Art Museum on Götaplatsen in Gothenburg is to be renovated and extended. However, the cost, initially estimated at 800 million kronor, has increased by 300 million kronor in the current proposal.
The increased cost and the changed interest rate situation mean that the annual rent is also being recalculated – and lands at over 60 million kronor per year, according to DN. An increase of over 500 percent compared to today's approximately 10 million kronor.
The Cultural Administration in Gothenburg has in vain sought an external co-financier. Nor are increased revenues in the form of more visitors expected to significantly affect the calculation.
The surplus that arises we assess as marginal. On the other hand, we see that the rebuilt art museum will strengthen Gothenburg as a destination, says Administrative Director Anna Rosengren to the newspaper.
The "tourism economic effects" for the city are estimated at 130 million annually.
