Göransson and Verbeek broke already in the opponents' second serve game and managed to break again and took the first set without having to save a single break ball.

The Swedish doubles specialist and his Dutch partner got a good grip on the semifinal, but it only lasted for a short while.

After an initial set victory with 6–2, it came to a halt. The Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori turned the match around and won with 2–6, 6–3, 6–3.

Prior to the meeting, André Göransson said:

We met in the second round of the US Open in September. We'll have our revenge now. It'll be fun but a tough match. It's about really being on from the start and playing with the same energy and aggression as before.

17-year-old William Rejchtman Vinciguerra, seeded number 14, fell in the quarterfinals of the junior singles against fifth-seeded American Jagger Leach with 1–6, 5–7 in sets.

The next blow for Rejchtman Vinciguerra came a few hours later. Together with Italian Andrea De Marchi, the Swede lost the semifinal in the doubles tournament against second-seeded pair Maxwell Exsted, USA, and Jan Kumstat, Czech Republic.
