The tech company confirmed the incident to The Wall Street Journal on Friday, but it reportedly occurred in May.
According to Google, the system stopped the intrusion when it realised it was outside the test environment.
Other AI companies, such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta, have also recently reported similar incidents. The reports prompted Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to call for a slowdown in AI development, which has sparked considerable debate in the industry.
