The European Court of Justice ruled in 2017 that Google had violated competition rules by abusing its dominant position. Following the decision, it is up to individual companies to pursue damages claims, which Pricerunner is doing.
Pricerunner's lawsuit also concerns the period after 2017, as the company believes that Google has not improved.
Google disagrees.
"The overwhelming majority of Pricerunner's astronomical damages claims are based on a diffuse assumption that the damage against them is still ongoing. This is despite the fact that the EU Commission settled the case in 2017 and Google then introduced a new system under the supervision of the Commission," writes Larsson.
