The AI overview function will soon be available to those who use the Swedish version of the search engine, says the American tech giant.
For those who Google, AI-generated answers or summaries may appear in certain cases, but according to the company, also more relevant search results.
Will get better
The idea is that the AI overview will provide better results on complex questions, where you may currently have to divide them into several different searches. The function will be rolled out gradually over the coming weeks, says a spokesperson for Google to TT.
When the function was introduced a year ago in the English-language version of the search engine, the AI gave some misleading answers. For example, lime was recommended as a pizza ingredient and people were advised to eat stones.
"Unusual requests"
Google defended itself by saying that most things turned out right and that measures were taken where needed.
"Several of the examples we've seen have been unusual requests and we've also seen examples that were manipulated and which we haven't been able to recreate, wrote the company.
The search engine business generates 60% of Google's parent company Alphabet's revenue, which last year meant 198 billion dollars (1,916 billion kronor), according to Bloomberg. There has been speculation about whether increased use of Chat GPT could hit that business, and Google is said to have put 1,000 technicians to develop AI functions after Chat GPT and other models were launched.
"We've noticed that people who use the AI overview actually search more and are more satisfied with their result. The AI overview now has over 1.5 billion users every month", writes Google in a press release.
