Google employee charged with insider trading after allegedly making $1.2 million betting on Polymarket

A Google employee is suspected of using insider information to make millions gambling - and is now being charged with a crime, writes the BBC.

In total, the employee is said to have earned $1.2 million, equivalent to just over 11 million kronor, from his investments on Polymarket.

Polymarket is a form of prediction market where customers can bet on the probability of certain events occurring.

Among other things, the employee had bet on who would be the most searched person on Google in 2025 and on the accused artist D4vd - information that had not yet been made public but to which the employee had access.

A Google spokesperson says the company is “cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation” and that the employee has been fired.
