Goncourt Prize winner Philippe Jaenada admits using ChatGPT while writing novel

French author Philippe Jaenada, who recently won the Goncourt Prize - France’s highest literary award - has admitted using AI to write his book, The Guardian reports.

It was in an interview on French radio that Jaenada revealed he had used ChatGPT “three times” while writing the novel “L’Inconnue du quai de Javel”.

According to Jaenada, he slipped in an AI-generated sentence to “play with the reader”, which he said he told the Goncourt jury on the day he received the prize. He also included an AI-generated paragraph to “play with AI-generated text”, he explained.

The admission comes after Canadian-Haitian author Thélyson Orélien lost his nomination for the prize following allegations that he had used AI.
