Sara Junevik has a golden opportunity in the 50m butterfly at the European Championship.
She was the fastest in the semi-final and the only swimmer under 26 seconds.
It's going to be great fun, I'm going to take it, she says ahead of the final.
The 24-year-old swimmer was clocked at 25.84 – a tenth of a second over her personal record – and was 28 hundredths of a second faster than Greek swimmer Anna Ntountounaki, who won her semi-final heat.
Junevik is chasing her first individual championship medal in the long course, having taken bronze in the distance at the short course European Championship last year.
But her main focus is not actually the gold hunt on the 50m butterfly. The distance is not on the Olympic programme, and she is targeting qualification on the 100m butterfly later in the week.
The 50m here is actually just a bonus. My focus is entirely on the 100m, she says to SVT.
Another athlete aiming to qualify for the Olympics at the European Championship is 19-year-old prospect Olivia Klint Ipsa on the 100m breaststroke.
The Kristianstad swimmer is final-ready on the distance after finishing second in the semi-final in 1:06.92 – 13 hundredths over the Olympic qualifying standard.
Both finals will be decided on Wednesday evening.
In the final of the mixed medley relay, Sweden finished sixth at the finish – but ended up fourth after two disqualifications.
Both Poland, who finished first, and Greece, who finished third, were disqualified for false starts, and Israel took the gold.
The blue-and-yellow quartet of Samuel Törnqvist, Erik Persson, Sara Junevik, and Hanna Bergman had 3:49.93 and were just over a second behind Hungary in bronze position.
