A gold mine in Colombia has collapsed and 25 miners are trapped 80 meters underground, according to local authorities for AFP.

We have had contact with the miners, who say they are fine, says Catalina Escobar, spokesperson for the department of Antioquia in northwestern Colombia where the mine is located, to the news agency.

The mine is run by a Canadian company, Aris.

Last year, 124 people died as a result of mine accidents in the country.

The collapse occurred on Monday evening.
