Verbruggen collided with an opponent during Monday's practice match against Uzbekistan, which the Netherlands won 2-1.
The 23-year-old Brighton goalkeeper injured his hip and missed the team's training session in Kansas on Wednesday. It is still unclear whether he will be able to play in the Netherlands' opener against Japan on Sunday.
"We have to wait. We think Verbruggen can be there, but it's day by day," Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman told reporters after training.
