Ahead of Sunday's two final events - the men's 1,500 meters and the women's 800 meters - both international contests were wide open.
Sweden managed to pull out a victory in one.
At the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, 21-year-old Alice Magnell Millán produced her best race of the season, winning the final 800-meter race and securing Sweden's overall victory. Mia Barnett came third and Maria Freij fifth, giving Sweden an 11-8 win in the event and 230-222 overall.

A measly hundredth
Sweden's national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist was, as tradition dictates, thrown into the moat, but was not able to celebrate a blue-yellow double victory like last year. She had expected it to be a draw.
It felt like it was going to be like this, that's what's so cool and so fun. It's a shame that we lost the men's match but it's fantastic that we won the women's, Bergqvist tells SVT.
On the men's side, it was dead even, 215-215, heading into the final 1,500 meters. But despite a clear victory for newly crowned European Championship silver medallist Samuel Pihlström, it wasn't enough for Sweden.
Finland finished 2nd-4th and won the event 12-10, and the international match 227-225. Everything was decided when Jonas Magnusson had a tough sprint battle against Finland's third man, Leonard Markén. He lost by a hundredth and came fifth.
"It's just so sad. That it should be so close, I don't have many words now," Jonas Magnusson tells SVT.
Amb impressed
Just like Samuel Pihlström, Andreas Almgren delivered a dominant Swedish victory earlier on Sunday. Almgren, who recently won the European Championship gold medal in the 10,000 meters, eased to first place in the distance.
Another impressive performer was Kim Amb, the javelin thrower who made a comeback this year after several years of injury hell. Amb threw a season's best of 79.06 and ended a Finnish clean sweep. It almost gave Sweden victory in the final.
