Ilkay Gündogan left Manchester City before last season, after having won everything with the club. But one season in Barcelona was enough. Now, Manchester City announces in their social channels that the German midfielder is returning to the club.
The 33-year-old leaves Barcelona on a free transfer and is reported to have signed a one-year contract with an option for a one-year extension.
Getting the opportunity to return here means so much, says Gündogan in a press release from Manchester City and continues:
I can't wait to put on the City jersey again.
Gündogan was the captain of the Manchester City team that in the 2022/23 season became the second English team in history, after rival Manchester United, to win the treble, i.e. Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in the same season.
