The leading indexes on the New York Stock Exchange fell overall on Thursday.
The broad S&P 500 index fell 0.9 percent, the Dow Jones industrial index dropped 0.4 percent, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index lost 1.7 percent.
Several of the major technology companies went heavily down during the day. Microsoft fell 2.0 percent, while Nvidia and Tesla lost 3.7 and 5.7 percent, respectively.
Peloton Interactive, which manufactures training equipment, rose over 35 percent since the company's quarterly report exceeded expectations.
During the day, figures were released showing that the number of people registering as unemployed increased last week compared to the previous week. However, the increase was marginal and in line with expectations.
Investors are now waiting for Friday's speech by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole symposium in Wyoming.
