The stock exchanges in China began the New Year's Eve trading in a gloomy style after Wall Street backed down due to concern over what 2025 may bring.
In Shanghai and Shenzhen, the composite index had fallen by 0.6 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively, by lunchtime.
From Hong Kong, there was neither a cheer nor a boo when the Hang Seng index hovered around zero. In Tokyo, as well as South Korea, the stock exchange was closed for the holiday.
