It was gloomy on the Asian stock exchanges and for the leading stock indexes there in Wednesday's initial trading. Disappointment over unmet expectations on tech giants' financial reports is said to contribute to the mood.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index showed a minus 0.2 percent after a few hours of trading, and the broader Topix index minus 0.4 percent.
In China, the decline was larger, with the composite indexes in Shanghai and Shenzhen down 0.6 and 1.2 percent, respectively.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index was down 0.6 percent.
