Global food prices hit highest level since 2022, UN says

Global food prices rose in August to their highest level since the end of 2022, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Among the commodities now rising sharply in price are wheat, which rose by 2.6 percent, and sugar, which rose by 11.9 percent.

At the same time, the UN index as a whole rose by 1.9 percent compared with the previous month.
