Food prices fell 0,8 percent in May compared to the previous month, according to new statistics from the UN's food organization FAO. The largest decline was for maize and wheat prices, which fell in the wake of strong harvests. Sugar prices also took a step back. At the same time, meat prices rose 1.3 percent compared to April after increased demand.
Despite the decline of the last month, global food prices are still 6 percent higher than a year ago.
