It was a high-intensity match when Girona took on Feyenoord in the second round of the Champions League.
The home team took the lead in the 19th minute through David Lopez – the club's first CL goal ever. But the guests from the Netherlands equalized just minutes later. The scapegoat was Yangel Herrera, who deflected a free kick into his own goal.
The away team then took the lead in the first half and subsequently missed a penalty and had a goal disallowed for offside. Instead, Girona got the chance to equalize from the penalty spot, but the goalkeeper saved.
The equalizer finally came through Donny van de Beek in the 73rd minute, and wild joy erupted in the stands. But 6 minutes later, Feyenoord would have the final say – after another own goal.
Yet another narrow defeat for the Spaniards after last round's 0–1 loss to PSG.
Girona, who finished third in La Liga last year and thereby qualified for their first CL final, will have to continue waiting for their first point.
