Simon Yates, winner of the cycling classic Giro d'Italia last year, unexpectedly ends his elite career.
The 33-year-old Briton had perhaps his best season of his career in 2025, which is why Wednesday's announcement is surprising.
"It may come as a surprise to many, but it is not a decision I have made lightly," said Simon Yates in a press release from his team, Team Visma.
In addition to the overall victory, he has six other stage wins in the Giro d'Italia, as well as three in the Tour de France and two in the Vuelta a España.
